WHAT TO EXPECT AS A
METAS FOR HSI SCHOLAR
Malcolm X College's METAS for HSI is more than a scholarship. It's a program built for you and your goals. This program will provide stipends, career exploration, and professional skills development to assist in your future STEM career.
METAS is aligned with Malcolm X College’s commitment to equity and inclusion by ensuring that students from underrepresented backgrounds and communities have access to opportunities that will help them secure a well-paying job in the workforce. METAS accepts applications from all Malcolm X College students. Preference will be given to applicants who identify as Latinx and/or are economically disadvantaged pursuing an Associate of Science Degree.
ABOUT METAS FOR HSI
In 2021, Malcolm X College was designated a “Hispanic Serving Institution” (HSI) by the U.S. Department of Education for the first time in history. This designation is awarded to colleges and universities that serve a Hispanic/Latinx student population of at least 25%.
The METAS for HSI project is a five-year, $5.4M federal grant aimed at strengthening college enrollment and completion of Hispanic/Latinx students and students who are economically disadvantaged, with a focus in the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) fields.
